Whenever you have a vehicle that is among the top sellers in any given segment, you want to be careful when the time comes to refresh the model. That’s exactly what Ford did with the 2017 Ford Fusion. The unique and refined design has been improved, but it’s under the hood where you’ll find the most changes.
The 2017 Ford Fusion’s main changes are found under the hood. Indeed, the Fusion features plenty of choices, including three four-cylinder engines, one six-cylinder option, and two hybrid variants. Starting at just under $22,500, the new Fusion gets a base four-cylinder 2.5L engine that delivers 175 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque.
Then, buyers can opt for a fuel-efficient 1.5 L EcoBoost engine that delivers 181 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, or another four-cylinder EcoBoost that offers 240 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Of course, we cannot forget the 2.7 L EcoBoost six-cylinder engine that features 325 horsepower and a whopping 350 lb-ft of torque.
It certainly is hard to find an engine offering more than 300 horsepower in the midsize sedan segment, and even harder to find such a powerful engine that delivers a combined fuel economy rating of only 11.5 liters per 100 kilometers. The 1.5 L EcoBoost engine is also quite fuel-efficient just like every other engine in the Fusion lineup with its combined 8.7 liters per 100 kilometers.
That said, if fuel economy is your main priority, the 2017 Ford Fusion is offered in two hybrid models. The first averages 5.6 liters per 100 kilometers while the Energi variant has a much longer electric-only range, allowing you to do most of your daily commute without needing a single drop of fuel (about 21 miles or 33.6 kilometers).
No doubt, there is a 2017 Ford Fusion for everyone. Regardless of the engine you choose, however, you will be getting a very comfortable midsize sedan that also happens to be fun to drive. Indeed, the Fusion has always achieved a fine balance between driving refinement and performance, and the 2017 edition is no exception.
On the road, the Fusion is quiet and luxurious while the seats offer plenty of support. There is also plenty of room for both front and rear passengers. That said, floor the right pedal, or accelerate into a turn, and you’ll quickly realize that the 2017 Ford Fusion can handle itself quite well when it comes to handling.
