Starting at just under $25,000, the Ford F-150 has been Canada’s best-selling vehicle for a half-century. In 2014, the Ford F-150 got significant changes not only in its design, but in its general philosophy when Ford engineers decided to turn to aluminum to build the F-150. The decision may have been met with skepticism initially, but that’s no longer the case. The 2016 Ford F-150 is just as rugged and capable as any other F-150 generation, but it is now also safer and more efficient.
At the heart of the F-150’s success is the fact that it offers so many versions. Pickup trucks have traditionally been used for work, but we all know that many buyers, if not most, now use their trucks to get around daily. The 2016 Ford F-150 is the perfect example of that reality, and the lineup offers something for everyone regardless of their needs.
Offering four engines that can be combined with a towing package if needed, the 2016 Ford F-150 is powered out of the gate by a 2.7L EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that features 325 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque. Then, there’s the the 3.5L EcoBoost unit that provides 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. Not bad for a V6!
There’s also another 3.5L V6 that delivers 282 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. And for those that want the power of a V8, there’s a 5.0L unit that sends 385 horsepower and 387 lb-ft of torque to the wheels.
Available in 4x2 and 4x4 variants, the 2016 Ford F-150 also happens to be fuel-efficient thanks to the weight savings brought on by using an aluminum structure. Indeed, the EcoBoost engine’s fuel economy rating can reach as low as 10.9 liters per 100 kilometers combined!
The 2016 Ford F-150 will be able to tow just about anything you want. Indeed, it features plenty of towing options and capabilities, but ultimately it can tow up to 5,534 kg or 12,200 lbs. Its maximum payload can reach 1,483 kg or 3,263 lbs. No question about it, the 2016 Ford F-150 can handle anything you throw at it.
That said, it is also comfortable and refined, and very well-equipped as well. Oh, and it is very safe as well. Indeed, it was named a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS back in April.
